San Diego Chargers vs Oakland Raiders NFL Week 4 Match
Coaches, the other white meat, or so it is in the NFL and with Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin. This guy has a fairly talented team in the Raiders but has an owner, Al Davis, who is toying with him with rumors surfacing that he will fire him barring a blow out of the Chargers.
The Raiders (1-2) went 4-12 in Kiffin’s first season last year, and after they blew a nine-point lead in the final five minutes in a 24-23 loss at Buffalo on Sunday, reports have emerged that Oakland’s unpredictable owner had seen enough, although that is unofficial.

Raiders Quarterback, JaMarcus Russell has mostly struggled. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft hasn’t thrown an interception in 2008, but he’s completed 51.6 percent of his passes for just 391 yards in three games. To make matters worse, there is a definite stigma playing the Chargers as the Raiders haven’t been able to produce a victory against them in exactly five years, since they beat the Chargers 34-31 at home on Sept. 28, 2003.
.
The San Diego Chargers (1-2), on the other hand, certainly haven’t looked like they’re on their way back to the conference title game either, especially with star linebacker Shawne Merriman out for the season with a knee injury, but at least they’re sure their coach will still be around tomorrow.
Still the San Diego club is looking to get back to .500, even with a defense which has allowed more than 400 yards per game. Undeterred by that fact is that many of the Chargers feel like they could be 3-0 after they coughed up leads in the final 30 seconds in each of their first two games. Of course, this is the NFL and feelings are not realities.
Coach Norv Turner’s team made sure nothing like that happened Monday night, beating the New York Jets 48-29 and with a solid outing from Quarterback, Phillip Rivers, who threw for 250 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the game, continuing his torrid start. The third-year starter has the highest passer rating in the NFL this season – 124.8 – completing more than two-thirds of his passes while hitting for nine touchdowns and just two interceptions.
Overall, this may be a fairly close game if both teams bring their “A” game. Like many other games this weekend, this could be a “Big Play” game that swings the game to one squad or another. If Oakland’s improved run defense (ranked 13th in the NFL) can be formidable against their nemesis and force Rivers into making plays into an active secondary, then the Raiders will have a chance to keeping it close late in the game. However, if Rivers begins his march down the field and gets solid support from the front line, it could be a long day for the Raiders.
Most who see this game as a toss-up with the Chargers having the advantage.
